Using T1 Lines for Voice Communications
Do you rely heavily on rapid connectivity and long distance calls for effective accomplishment of your company's business deals? In that case, you must check out the digital T1 lines for voice, which might prove to be the ideal, most up-to-date and cost effective alternative for your usual switched calls system.
However, this system will prove to be truly cost effective for you only if your business requires a great volume of calls, otherwise this option will not prove to be financially very feasible for your business.
The Integrated T1 voice pipeline comprising of 24 channels is utilized for voice as well as data lines. When integrated into your business, the T-1 pipe is joined with a router that divides the 24 channels into phone lines or data lines on the basis of the telecommunication requirements of your company.
In spite of being slightly expensive, the T1 voice connectivity is a dependable and quicker alternative for the business houses contemplating various options to manage their long distance voice traffic.
For the purpose of transmission, the long distance services, traditionally, rely on two basic formats. The most extensively prevalent and used form is the switched call, which originates from the common POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) lines and is routed via the key switch of a local telephone company.
But, at present, the dedicated long distance analog connection is transmitted over a digital T1 voice line from the client's location via the head office of the local telephone company, not through the switch that connects it directly to the voice network of the carrier.
It helps in reducing the per minute rate of calls to a great extent, but the amount of calls has to be large enough to compensate for the monthly fee charged by the carrier for the T1 line. Only then, this system can produce considerable savings.
The Voice T1 lines are usually distributed through a RJ-45 jack given by the local phone company. The most important benefit of T1 voice connectivity is its ability to end the calls in various ways. But, for this facility, you need to install extra equipments capable of terminating your local POTS (plain old telephone service) lines and the enabling the system to function like any traditional phone system.
Following are some of the most popular equipments required for installing the T1 voice connectivity:
T1 card, or a channel bank varying from $1000-$4000. It is decided on the basis of your equipment and/or vendor.
Another extensively used equipment is the T1 Voiceboards. It is used to change digital signals into analog mode. It facilitates variable voice encoding at bit rates of 24 and 32 Kb/s for Adaptive Differential Pulse Code Modulation (ADPCM) and bit rates of 48 and 64 Kb/s for Pulse Code Modulation (PCM) and NBX 100 Communications System. Moreover, it comes equipped with a multi-line business telephone set with caller ID, auto attendant, voice mail, LAN/WAN connectivity and in-built CTI functionality into every system.
However, the most essential requirement is, at least, 12 telephone lines and your phone system must be capable to accept a T1 channel adapter card. Currently, there are several modern PBX systems that are able to accept a T1 channel card.
T1 VoIP gateway includes many interconnected processes that change a voice signal into a stream of packets on a packet network and vice versa. This needs to be connected with T1 Routers that facilitate the movement of IP Packets across the Internet and integrate your voice and data on to a single T1 line.
T1 Integrated Access Devices provide voice and data service through a single channelized T1 line to business clients interested in a cost-effective means to expand access according to their requirements.
Voice T1 provides a better alternative to any corporate house interested in reducing its existing call value and benefiting by increasing the working hours. This can be achieved only by integrating T1 voice services into the present phone lines, as the price of T1 Voice lines are determined by distance from the carrier's POP (Point-of-Presence) to the head from where the client is served.
The prices of T1 lines vary from $100 to $500 per month on the basis of location and nearness to the carrier's network. The cost of normal T1 voice line ranges from $200-$1000 per month on the basis of the geographic location from the loop.
So, it can be fairly concluded that this is the best option for a client with 12-24 phone lines that depend greatly on DS-1 voice service. Through this system, all 24 lines would be simultaneously connected to the long distance carrier irrespective of their outbound, inbound, or bi-directional nature.
The two costs involved in availing of this service are-the Local Loop fee, a flat fee charged per month by the local phone company and the cost of the Long Distance Usage with T1 Voice rates of 10-40% lower than switched long distance service.
